Nursing, BSN

The BSN program prepares graduates who will be able to:

• Integrate concepts from liberal education with nursing curriculum to enhance critical thinking and implementation of quality care.
• Integrate principles of leadership and management through intra- and inter- disciplinary collaborations to address client needs and outcomes.
• Foster scholarship in nursing practice through identification of emerging health care problems, appraising current evidence, and its potential for application to improve outcomes.
• Demonstrate effective professional communication as part of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating to provide for optimal health outcomes.
• Analyze the health care policy process for the improvement of health care for all.
• Demonstrate competence in the management of information and the application of technology to deliver quality care.
• Develop health promotion and disease prevention interventions at the individual and population level to improve health.
• Actualize professional values such as altruism, autonomy, integrity, social justice, and respect for human dignity.
• Provide the highest quality of nursing care across the lifespan and continuum of healthcare environments.

For individuals who are not Registered Nurses. The College of Nursing has a demanding curriculum. The classes are work-intensive and courses include clinical practice in a variety of settings. Due to this, it is strongly recommended that students be at least one-year post-high school prior to applying to the basic nursing program. Students with concerns or questions should contact the College of Nursing Undergraduate Student Services Office for an appointment with an academic advisor.

The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing. The Nursing (B.S.N.) program will meet the educational eligibility criteria for the National Council for Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) for obtaining a license to practice as a registered nurse in Florida. Admissions

• Two years of one foreign language in high school, or one year of one foreign language in college (or equivalent proficiency exam) prior to graduation.

Additional Requirements

• Students pursuing a BS degree must meet the University foreign language admission requirements before admission.
• Mandatory Drug Screening is required prior to admission and "on demand" for continuation in the program.

Students must:

• Complete all courses in major with at least a "C" (2.0) or "S" grade when appropriate.
• Maintain a UCF GPA of 2.5 or above.
• Maintain a College of Nursing GPA of 2.5 or above.
• All students admitted to a BSN program will be responsible for a subscription to the LEAP*RN student information database and repository.

Departmental Exit Requirements

• All courses in major must be "C" (2.0) or better.
• The UCF GPA must be 2.5 or above.
• The College of Nursing GPA must be 2.5 or above.

University Minimum Exit Requirements

• A 2.0 UCF GPA
• 42 semester hours of upper division credit completed
• 60 semester hours earned after CLEP awarded
• 30 of the last 39 hours of course work must be completed in residency at UCF.
• A maximum of 45 hours of extension, correspondence, CLEP, Credit by Exam, and Armed Forces credits permitted.
• Complete the General Education Program, the Gordon Rule, and nine hours of Summer credit.

Honors Undergraduate Thesis

Honors Option Requires:

• Open to students with a minimum 3.5 GPA in Nursing.
• Completion of a three credit directed readings course.
• Completion of a three credit thesis course.
• Must earn a minimum cumulative UCF 3.2 GPA.
• Completion of 60 semester hours of college credit, including 12 graded upper division hours at UCF.
