The start of the fall semester is just a few days away, and I am so excited to welcome so many of you home to UCF.
For those Knights returning to UCF, remember that our on-campus experience this fall depends on all of us taking personal responsibility for our actions, knowing that they have ripple effects on the health and well-being of others.
Not practicing physical distancing and other precautions impacts not only us and our university, but those we care about. We have peers who are immunocompromised and loved ones who are higher risk, and we do not yet know the long-term health consequences of COVID-19.
We have already seen universities across the country reverse their plans for an in-person fall semester, and a common reason for this shift is community outbreak traced back to social gatherings and parties.
We do not want that to be UCF. We can help this not be UCF.
Your actions matter, and you can be proactive. Environments with shared air where large groups of people are close together and talking loudly pose high risk. Plan for safe alternatives, which can include bringing your event outside, reducing the number of attendees, keeping your distance, increasing ventilation, requiring face coverings to be worn the whole time, or going virtual.
This will not be the fall semester that any of us expected, but we must meet this moment.
I have pledged to Armor Up because I care about our UCF family. I ask you to join me in signing the pledge and committing to the responsible behaviors necessary to prevent spread of the pandemic within the UCF community.
