The minor in emergency management and homeland security provides students with an opportunity to comprehensively study the disaster management cycle, including emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery. In an age of dense population, increased terrorism, unpredictable weather and high public expectations of risk reduction and public leadership, this is an exciting area of study. Students who complete a minor in emergency management and homeland security gain additional insight and knowledge that will help them find positions in various federal, state and local government, private sector, or nonprofit organizations. Some of these may include the Health and Human Services Agency (HHS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), American Red Cross, state, local, emergency management or homeland security agencies.
