Biography

Annette Khaled, who leads the Cancer Research Division in UCF’s College of Medicine, is known as a “Cancer Assassin.” Khaled’s research spans both basic and translational areas of cancer research and involves the development of cancer therapeutics, nanotechnology and immunotherapy to treat the most invasive and aggressive forms of breast, lung and prostate cancer. Khaled has developed a liquid biopsy that could help identify cancer earlier and give patients more treatment options. She also has developed nanoparticle-based therapies that seek out and destroy a protein mechanism known as the chaperonin complex in cancer cells. Without that complex, cancer cells starve and die. The Cure Bowl funds her research.
