Biography

Cristina Fernández-Valle’s research is focused on understanding molecular mechanisms controlling peripheral nerve development with emphasis on regulation of growth and differentiation of Schwann cells into myelin-forming cells. Fernández-Valle has won funding to research a disease known as Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), which affects one in 50,000 people, that can leave children and young adults deaf, partially paralyzed or brain damaged.
