Biography

Helen J. Huang is a biomedical engineer who leads the UCF Biomechanics, Rehabilitation, and Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Laboratory (BRaIN). Members of the BRaIN Lab team include students from biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and biomedical sciences. The BRaIN team studies the brain dynamics and neuromechanics of human locomotion and locomotor adaptation. They use mobile brain/body imaging (MOBI) techniques and specialize in electroencephalography (EEG). They are also exploring how the “noise” in EEG can be used to extract information for multimodal neuromechanics, which could help simplify the hardware for systems using brain-machine interfaces. The UCF BRaIN team hopes their research will inform and inspire new accessible MOBI-based approaches for maintaining or restoring mobility and balance for people of all backgrounds and ages.
