Biography
Julia Listengarten, a theater artist and scholar, has made significant contributions to the world of avant-garde theater, contemporary scenographic practice, and performances of national identity. Born and raised in New York City, she has worked professionally with various experimental theater companies. Her passion for pushing artistic boundaries and exploring innovative theatrical forms has shaped her career.
Julia Listengarten joined the University of Central Florida in 1999 as an Assistant Professor of Theatre. In 2001, she assumed the role of Coordinator of Graduate Studies and Research in Theatre. Since Fall 2016, she has held the position of Artistic Director. Her dedication to teaching, artistic expression, and scholarly pursuits has left an indelible mark on the UCF community.
As a prolific writer, Julia has authored numerous articles and books on contemporary playwriting and theater making. Her work has been featured in leading peer-reviewed journals, reflecting her dynamic engagement with the field. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was honored as a Pegasus Professor, the highest faculty distinction at UCF, in 2021.
