Biography
Dr. Kyle Rohde is an associate professor and infectious disease expert who is working to develop more effective therapies for Mycobacterium abscessus (MAB), which causes tuberculosis-like infections that are especially debilitating to people with cystic fibrosis or underlying pulmonary problems and comprised immunity.
Research in the Rohde lab is focused on pathogenic mycobacteria, including the slow-growing Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), which causes more than 10 million new infections and about 1.5 million deaths each year, and M. abscessus (Mab), a rapidly growing non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) that afflicts people suffering from pre-existing conditions such as cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).
