Biography

Ramses Ramirez dedicates his work to answering the age-old question, “Are we alone in the universe?” To this end, his research group models the planetary atmospheres of potentially habitable terrestrial planets both within and outside the solar system. Ramirez studies potentially habitable worlds, and develops atmospheric models to assess the physical processes that make planets habitable. this includes improving definitions of the habitable zone that are used to target potentially habitable worlds. His research combines several disciplines, including atmospheric science, astronomy, physics, geology, and biology. Recent work has focused on Mars, expanding and improving definitions of the habitable zone, atmospheric escape processes, and atmospheric-magma ocean evolution.
