Biography

Stephen Eikenberry is a professor of applied optics in the College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL) and a professor of physics in the Physics Department at the University of Central Florida. He is a co-founder of the CREOL Astrophotonics program.

Eikenberry’s research focuses on studying black holes, neutron stars, dark energy, gravitational waves, and extrasolar planets. He designs and builds astronomical instruments (primarily infrared and optical) to carry out these observations, with related applications in remote sensing, space domain awareness, telecoms, and biomedical imaging and spectroscopy.

He received his Ph.D. in astronomy from Harvard University, his M.A. in astronomy from Harvard University and S.B.s in physics and literature from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
