Biography

Yongho Sohn’s research and teaching interests include metallic alloy powder processing and additive manufacturing, microstructural analysis and control, multicomponent intrinsic and interdiffusion in multiphase alloys, protective metallic/ceramic coatings for high temperature applications, light-weight metallic alloys and metal-matrix composites, and materials characterization. Sohn oversees the Laboratory for Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing, which focuses on materials processing including additive manufacturing (3D printing), testing and characterization of metallic alloys and ceramics for applications with extreme environments (temperature, stress, radiation). This research aims to provide fundamental understanding in microstructure development through thermodynamics and kinetics. Currently, the group’s research emphasis is on metallic alloys, metal matrix composites and protective ceramic coatings for metallic components.
