Robinson Observatory was built in 1994 and 1995, and dedicated on April 25, 1996. Astronomy outreach, education and research has gone on at the observatory ever since. The observatory is named for one of UCF’s Founders, Herbert O. Robinson, who provided much of the funds necessary for the building’s construction. The efforts of the Central Florida Astronomical Society, a local amateur astronomy group, were vital in initiating the idea of a UCF campus observatory, in seeing the project to its fruition and in finding a telescope to be housed under the dome. The observatory is currently run by the Department of Physics with the help of the Astronomy Society at UCF, a campus RSO.
