An assistant professor and graduate student have received a $250,000 grant to investigate environmental safety concerns around using a clay solution to reduce impacts of the harmful algae bloom.

For June 30’s day of observance, here’s a special nod to the eight asteroids making waves in the solar system — just like their UCF faculty namesakes.

Students in some classes will have both face-to-face and online instructions to provide access to necessary in-person lessons, while upholding proper safety/distancing guidelines.

The Fall 2020 move places students closer to Orlando’s business district and allows them to more easily access job opportunities, internships and community outreach initiatives.

Up to $175,000 is available to researchers with preference given to teams that include an industry partner.

Over the next five year, the DOE will fund Li Fang’s work, which may lead to new developments for ultrafast detectors and sensors, storing and moving energy, and controlling chemical reactions.

Students can apply for new or additional funding through their myUCF accounts until 11:59 p.m. on July 5.
