In partnership with Centra Care, Get Healthy Florida and Student Government Association, UCF Health Services staff announced that 2,527 faculty, staff, students and local community residents received the seasonal flu vaccine at the UCF campus. Nearly two times the number of students received the vaccine in one day compared to the total for all last year.
The large-scale community event, which took place September 30th, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the UCF Arena garnered positive media attention from every major news network in the Central Florida area. Additionally, this event provided UCF staff an opportunity to participate in and observe the performance of a mass vaccination; something that is likely to be needed with the release of the H1N1 Swine Flu vaccine anticipated by the end of October.
The event was promoted as an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most flu shots given in one day. Although the record was not broken, UCF Health Services staff considers the event a success. For more information on H1N1 Swine Flu, visit: https://shs.sdes.ucf.edu/.
