The University of Central Florida will be well represented on ABC’s “Celebrity Family Feud” on Sunday, when actress and alumna Cheryl Hines takes the stage with her family – including sister Rebecca Hines, a UCF professor, and brother Mike Hines, a UCF alumnus.
The team will be rounded out by mother Rosemary Harbolt and another brother, Chris, when they take on the family of comedic actress Niecy Nash. Hines is best known for her roles in “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Suburgatory.”
“When Cheryl called, she said, ‘Should we do this? I don’t want to look like an idiot, and you’re a professor and you don’t want to look like an idiot,’” said Rebecca, of UCF’s College of Education & Human Performance.
In the end, it was the opportunity to play for their favorite charitable cause, UCP – a nonprofit that helps those with cerebral palsy and other special needs – that made the decision an easy one. The sisters’ nephew has cerebral palsy, and Cheryl is a celebrity ambassador for that national organization. Rebecca, who teaches future exceptional-education teachers at UCF, works with the organization, too.
The show was taped in Los Angeles last month.
“We’re a really close family. So it’s always fun when you get to have a shared experience with the people you like the best. My goal was to just avoid humiliating myself or the university,” Rebecca said with a laugh.
The show will air in the Orlando area at 8 p.m. Sunday on WFTV.
