On September 9, UCF Health Services held the kickoff meeting of Type 1, a new program developed for UCF students who have Type 1 Diabetes. The program provided entertaining and interactive education related to diabetes during the 2010-11 school year, and is being steered by a committee of interdisciplinary health professionals from the Health Center, Wellness Center, Pharmacy and Counseling Center.
Young adults can often feel isolated and frustrated when they are dealing with a chronic disease such as diabetes. The meetings are providing them with the tools and information they need to successfully enjoy their college experience while managing their diabetes in a healthy way.
The first meeting was attended by eight students who received program information, free lab work and a complimentary meal at the Marketplace. The evening’s discussion subjects covered program and staff introductions and the prevention, recognition and treatment of Hypoglycemia.
Please encourage students who are interested in participating in the Type 1 program to visit www.hs.ucf.edu to fill out a contact form on the Type 1 page, and visit the Calendar of Events for upcoming meeting dates.
Health Services and the Counseling Center are in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.
