Transfer students were welcomed to UCF at the 4th Annual Multicultural Transfer Student Reception, hosted by the offices of Multicultural Academic & Support Services and Transfer & Transition Services. They were encouraged to get involved, advised of opportunities and resources, and had the opportunity to connect with other transfer students as well as talk to Student Development and Enrollment Services’ Leadership Team members. Approximately, 50 newly enrolled summer and fall 2015 multicultural transfer students were welcomed by several offices in SDES.
Welcome remarks were made by Cyndia Muñiz, MASS assistant director, and Dion Webb, TTS graduate assistant, and Assistant Vice President Chanda Torres provided greetings on behalf of the SDES Leadership Team.
Student Wisangeles Walker encouraged student attendees to get involved with the registered student organization “Transfer Knights,” and Transferring into Professional Success (TiPS) leaders Raquel Toro, Euince Baltodano, and Christie Encarnación encouraged students to apply for the TiPS program. Funded by the Parent and Family Fund Grant, TiPS assists multicultural transfer students with professional and career development. Students were also notified of the MASS Multicultural Transfer Scholarship opportunity. Several SDES Leadership Team members Associate Vice President Kerry Welch and Assistant Vice Presidents Belinda Higgs Hyppolite, A.J. Range and Torres greeted and talked with students.
Other SDES offices present included Lead Scholars Academy, Student Health Services, Academic Advancement Programs, Student Legal Services and the Sophomore and Second Year Center, as well as UCF Academic Advancement Programs. Representatives from those offices engaged students in conversations about the services that were available to them, to help them be successful at UCF. The event also brought was a time that students could meet and talk to fellow transfer students.
