Pride Commons, a new inclusive space for UCF students to study, relax and interact, will hold a grand opening from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in Room 171 of Ferrell Commons.
Pride Coalition, campus organizers of the facility, said the purpose of the facility is to provide an assumption-free atmosphere for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and other individuals.
Pride Commons is designed for social events, discussions and meet-up groups to serve the diverse interests of the student body. Regular office hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., except when there are special events.
The initial ceremony will be 3-3:45 p.m. in Ferrell Auditorium, featuring speakers Melissa Westbrook, student body president; Dr. Maribeth Ehasz, vice president of Student Development and Enrollment Services; and state Rep. Joe Saunders, a UCF alumni. After the ribbon-cutting at Pride Commons there will be food and music.
