The Rosen College Peer Mentor Program held a wrap-up event on Friday, Dec. 2 to celebrate the end of the fall semester.

The student mentors and mentees enjoyed a presentation by Dennis Levy, Rosen College Fall 2010 graduate who is now the Director of Purchasing & Development with SLA Management.  Levy was in charge of winning the bid that resulted in SLA Management overseeing The Courtyard Café at Rosen College.

Vanessa Cogswell developed the Peer Mentor Program this semester.  The Coordinator for Rosen College’s Office of Student Services shares, “I invited Dennis to speak to the Peer Mentor Program to give them inspiration and motivation.  I think when students see Rosen Alumni who are doing well in the industry it reminds them why they chose Rosen College. “

The program was developed to increase retention and graduation rates within the hospitality college.  Undergraduate students with GPAs above 3.0 are partnered with peers to enhance their overall college experience academically, socially and personally.  Throughout the semester, students have engaged in icebreakers, one-on-one sessions, a “Know Your Resources” scavenger hunt and more.

The Peer Mentor Program looks forward to continuing during the Spring 2012 term.  Cogswell shares, “We’re wanting to expand and become a viable program that positively represents Rosen College.”

To get involved as either a Peer Mentor (application process) or Peer Mentee (no stipulations), students should contact Vanessa.Cogswell@ucf.edu or 407-903-8025.
