Several student organizations represented the University of Central Florida in the Southwest Orlando Jaycees 30th Annual Downtown Orlando Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on January 18. Students reflected on Dr. King’s legacy of peace and unity recognizing him as an integral part of the Civil Rights Movement which laid the foundation for the equality of treatment and opportunity enjoyed in America and around the world today.
The theme for the 2014 parade celebration was “UNITY! Remember, Celebrate, Act.” With Knightro leading the way, UCF students marched behind a banner that read “UCF uKNIGHTed for the Dream.”
“We had a great turnout by the students, and they really got the crowds hyped up and chanting ‘UCF, UCF!’ all along the parade route,” said Dawn Ofodile, University of Central Florida Department of Community Relations.
Ofodile , and Germayne Graham, LEAD Scholars program, worked with the UCF student chairperson, Bianca Gauvin to coordinate buses, recruit students and organize participation.
