The #UCFBusiness Cornerstone program comes to an end this semester and was celebrated with its last ever Cornerstone Social Entrepreneurship Competition in April. The team that won the 2015 competition was “The Seven Dwarves”, raising more than $10,000 of monetary and in-kind donations for Junior Achievement at Wetherbee Elementary School. Team members Melissa Wise, Asim Khan, Nana Kofi Arhin, Nora Mejia, Krystal McCary and Chard Phebe competed against other student teams enrolled in the Cornerstone course at the UCF College of Business Administration (#UCFBusiness).
Junior Achievement is an organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Over the course of the semester, “The Seven Dwarves” taught 40 Junior Achievement classes to approximately 160 Wetherbee Elementary School students in addition to raising funds for the school.
“We found so much help from the community,” said Chard Phebe, a member of the first-place team. “I’m thankful for everything we were able to do for the school.”
Other finalists were “Knights for Hope” (Camden Cilento and Rikhil Amin), “Wolf Pack” (Austin Medlin, Blair Holland, Walter Alliance, David Perez, Nicholas Marler and Juan Quiles) and “Knight Tank” (Simonas Baksys, Lauren Cotter, Amanda Curry, Ricardo Garcia Junior, Natalie Rogers, Caroline Skahn and Kristin Stevenson).
