The native Florida Scrub Jay is a threatened species because much of its habitat has been destroyed. This bird was photographed at the Savannas Preserve State Park, which is on the Atlantic Coast near Fort Pierce. The small red band on its leg was placed by park rangers to track the population in the park. The birds are quite curious and often appear to investigate intruders in their territory.
