At UCF, safety is a team effort. From the dedicated men and women of the UCF Police Department to vigilant students to caring faculty and staff members, we all play a role in campus safety.
Here’s how you can look out for yourself and fellow Knights.
Safety Fair Highlights On and Off-Campus Resources
UCF’s back-to-school Safety Fair is a one-stop shop for all things safety related.
The sixth annual Safety Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union. The fair is coordinated by Victim Services in honor of National Campus Safety Awareness Month.
The showcase will highlight campus and community services related to violence and crime prevention, fire safety, health and wellness, and community awareness and support.
Information, activities and demonstrations will educate attendees about how to stay safe and equip them with the knowledge and tools to prevent and report crimes.
Building a Culture of Care at UCF
When in doubt about an issue related to student well-being, UCF Cares should be your first stop.
UCF Cares is an umbrella of programs and resources dedicated to building a caring culture at UCF. Students can connect with UCF Cares for information related to mental wellness, safety, diversity and inclusion, sexual violence, adjusting to college and more.
UCF Cares’ website, cares.sdes.ucf.edu/, is a hub for information.
UCF Cares is part of Student Care Services, which offers guidance and resources for students experiencing a distressing situation that impacts academic or personal success. Student Care Services is in Room 142 of Ferrell Commons.
Expect to see more from UCF Cares this academic year as the university emphasizes its commitment to building a culture where all students feel safe and welcomed.
UCF Police Offer Free Services, Patrol 24/7
Though overall reports of theft on campus are down from this point in 2014, it’s always a good idea to document your valuables in the event an item goes missing or is stolen.
UCFPD offers free property registration, which aids in the recovery of items such as bicycles, laptops, tablets, cell phones, and any other valuable that has a serial number. Property can be registered at police.ucf.edu/property-registration.
Each month, UCFPD offers a free self-defense class for women. Most classes are held at the UCF Police Department, and sign-up is available at police.ucf.edu/womens-self-defense.
UCFPD also offers the Safe Escort Patrol Service, which provides a free safe escort for those on campus at night.
The service can be reached from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. seven nights a week by calling 407-823-2424. Call 407-823-5555 after those hours, and a UCF police officer will be dispatched if one is available.
Uniformed officers serve UCF 24/7, 365 days a year. If you need the assistance of a police officer, call 407-823-5555. Always dial 911 for an emergency or crime in progress.
