The bicycle is king next week as UCF celebrates Bike Week 2015.

Bike Week will pack in a slew of bike-related activities, starting with a bicycle flash mob on Monday that organizers hope will bring together a sea of two-wheeled transportation.

“I think it’s going to be a really fun week of events,” said Student Union communications manager Sara Lane.

The event, which includes 11 activities running from Monday through Thursday, is co-sponsored by the Recreation and Wellness Center and the Student Union. The focus is “safety, sustainability and sport,” Lane said.

It was created to encourage a bike-friendly atmosphere at and around UCF, and to recognize the environmental benefits of bike riding.

Students also have a chance to get a free bike.

Organizers will give away two bikes. One will go to a student randomly selected from those who participate in at least three of the events. (Students will prove their participation by getting a passport stamped and turning it in at the information desks at the Student Union or RWC.

The recipient of the second bike will be chosen based on need. Students can submit an application through KnightConnect here.

In addition to the flash mob, activities include an outdoor spin class, a bike-share day, a triathlon primer, a trail ride at Lake Claire and more. Wednesday is “Bike to UCF” day, and organizers will track the impact on the carbon footprint based on the number of students who participate.
