This photo was taken of the launch of the MAVEN space probe from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Nov. 11 – from a distance of about 8 miles. NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution probe is on its way to study the atmosphere of the planet and link up with the Curiosity rover that landed on Mars last year. Photographer Brad Salzman said an interesting thing about a launch from this distance was the time delay between taking the photo and then hearing the rocket’s blast seconds afterward.
