This photo was taken by photographer Michael Mendonca using a technique called free lensing while on a trip to Seattle this summer. As he was standing on a balcony about 15 stories high, he hovered a lens in front of the camera sensor until the focus was where he wanted it. “I thought this would be a great opportunity to try this technique, having the person in focus and evening else gradually growing out of focus,” he said. “The setting sun and the streetlights put the icing on the cake.” Mendonca’s portfolio can be seen at Michael Mendonca’s Flickr.
