Officers and detectives from the University of Central Florida Police Department will educate students about UCF’s bait bike program and help them protect their property.
UCFPD owns the bait bikes, which are left around campus. The bikes are equipped with GPS trackers so that when a thief steals a bike, police are notified and know where to find them.
Police will hand out “This Could Be a Bait Bike” stickers from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in front of the Recreation and Wellness Center. The idea is that by adding a sticker to their bike, students are encouraging potential thieves to think twice.
On Thursday, UCF Police also will be onsite with laptops so that students can register their bikes and other valuables with the police department at no cost to students.
By entering an item’s make, model and serial number into the software, UCF Police and other law enforcement agencies have access to details that can aid in property recovery in the event an item is lost or stolen.
