The UCF Office of Research today published its online 2019 annual report, which includes research stories from each college and a statistical breakdown of sponsored research for the fiscal year.
Because of COVID-19, the report was delayed this year, which allowed the office to add a snapshot of the 2020 fiscal year statistics that includes a record $204.5 million in research awards. There are also several new additions to the report that can be found here.
The goal of the publication is to share with UCF and the broader community the power of research through data and examples of work that are making a difference. As in 2018, each college selected a story to highlight in the publication. Some chose to highlight a story that received national attention in 2019, others opted to provide updates about on-going research.
For example, the College of Nursing shared a story about how its faculty collaborated with other universities to study the use of augmented reality to help prepare healthcare workers to respond to a mass influx of trauma cases resulting from major emergencies such as a train derailment or tornado. The College of Optics and Photonics updated a story about a potentially life-saving blood monitor it helped developed in 2017. The monitor is used in surgery, and if trials continue to produce positive results, the technology would then begin the process for FDA approval.
New additions to the report this year:
- updates about the Faculty Clusters
- updates about the centers that fall under the Office of Research
- a list of tenure and tenure-earning faculty who have been awarded the most sponsored research in fiscal year 2019
- a list of faculty members who have published (books, journal articles, conference proceedings) the most in the 2019 calendar year
- research-award statistics for each college
