The 7th annual UCF Community Summit on Environment and Global Climate Change will be held Thursday, March 28, at 3 p.m. in the Cape Florida Ballroom of the Student Union. Author, lawyer and film producer Mark London will screen his one-hour movie, Shark Loves the Amazon, with a question-and-answer session to follow.
In 1980, London co-authored the groundbreaking book, Amazon, about the conflict between the economic development and environmental preservation of the rainforest. After visiting Brazil’s vast inland provinces again nearly 30 years later, he went on to publish The Last Forest to document the changes that have taken place.
London is also the producer of the documentary Shark Loves the Amazon. Based on the personal accounts of London in the region over the last 30-plus years, the film is made from the perspective of the 21 million people who call the Amazon their home.
London also co-authored Four Little Dragons: Inside Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore at the Dawn of the Pacific Century, an exploration of the developing economies of Asia. London is a graduate of Amherst College and The George Washington University Law School.
The summit, organized by the UCF Global Perspectives Office, is a co-curricular component of the UCF General Education Program unifying theme “The Environment and Global Climate Change.” The event is free and open to the public.
In addition to the Global Perspectives Office, sponsors and partners include the UCF Office of Undergraduate Studies, Lawrence J. Chastang and the Chastang Foundation, UCF Political Science Department, UCF LIFE, UCF Book Festival 2013 in association with the Morgridge International Reading Center and the Global Connections Foundation.
