Surf’s up — way up — for Amy Nicholl.
The UCF Surf Team member brought home her second national title in three years in the college women’s division at the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s recent Interscholastic National Championships. Nicholl also won the women’s NSSA national title in 2009.
The team finished ninth at the June 16-18 competition in Salt Creek, Dana Point, Calif.
Nicholl, a 22-year-old marketing major, grew up in New Smyrna Beach and has been surfing since she was 9. She is a perennial top-five finisher at the national championships.
“To finish my collegiate surfing career with another win is just the best possible thing I could have imagined,” she said.
CBS Sports Network, seen locally on Bright House channels 106 and 1137, will televise the championships on Friday, July 13, at 9 p.m. CBS, seen locally on WKMG, will also air highlights during a special one-hour show on Sunday, Aug.12, at 1 p.m.
A reception will be hosted by the Sports Clubs Council and the Recreation and Wellness Center to celebrate Nicholl’s championship at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the center’s second-floor terrace overlooking the lap pool.
