The University of Central Florida this week was awarded the 2013 Institutional Excellence Award by the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education.
The award will be presented at the association’s annual conference March 4-6 in Washington, D.C.
Christine Stanley, chair of the association’s Inclusive Excellence Awards committee, said the award recognizes institutions “that have shown demonstrable progress in promoting and sustaining innovative diversity efforts within their campus community such as the efforts you illustrate in institutional leadership, institutional transformation, recruitment and retention, outreach, and professional development.”
Dr. Valarie King, director of UCF’s Office of Diversity Initiatives, said she is pleased with the award because “out of the many universities in the U.S., my peers selected UCF…This is beyond my wildest dreams.”
Barbara Thompson, training coordinator for Diversity Initiatives, is scheduled to represent the university at the awards presentation.
