Alex & Sierra, the singers who share a UCF connection, were crowned winners of Fox TV’s “The X Factor” contest Thursday night, sealing the deal for a million-dollar recording contract.
Alex Kinsey of New Smyrna Beach, a UCF senior, and Sierra Deaton of Winter Springs, who recently graduated with a degree in advertising and public relations, began dating and singing together about two years ago. Both are 22.
The folk/pop duo, who were mentored on the show by Simon Cowell, won the competition based on viewer voting. All three embraced after the announcement and Kinsey said: “This is incredible.”
Alex & Sierra closed the show by singing “Say Something.” Their winning contract is with Sony Music.
