The 4th Annual Healing Art Exhibition reception was held on February 18 at the Office of Counseling and Psychological Services. The exhibit is an annual, juried, 2-D art exhibition created through CAPS in collaboration with the School of Visual Arts & Design. The exhibit showcases artwork by UCF students, alumni, faculty and staff members.
The Healing Art Exhibition creates campuswide awareness of counseling and psychological services at UCF, increases inclusivity across campus, and reduces mental health stigma. In addition, the event creates an open exhibition space for creativity and healing.
This year’s theme,“Unity,” is about demonstrating harmony and wholeness; emphasizing how separate pieces come together to create oneness.
“Works of art so often arise from some deep personal feeling in the lives of the artist that emotion itself is commonly taken as the defining characteristic of art; it’s what’s felt when it is created and how one feels when viewing it,” said Teresa Michaelson CAPS.
During the evening reception, the artists and guests had an opportunity to view the art work, enjoy classical and modern guitar music and hear spoken word poetry. The artwork will be on display through November 2016.
